State of Rhode Island, Stay Covered RI , Health Coverage through Medicaid

RIte Share – Help to Pay for Insurance from Your Job

RIte Share is Rhode Island's Premium Assistance Program that can help you pay for your employer's health insurance plan. The State will pay all or part of the cost for employee health insurance coverage, as well as your deductibles, coinsurance, and any services covered by Medicaid but not by your employer coverage.

The state requests rate and benefit information from employers.  If we determine that the coverage is cost-effective, we will send you a Go Enroll letter.  Once you enroll, Medicaid will pay you for the amount that comes out of your paycheck for the health insurance.  If you have not heard from us and you are interested in possible enrollment, contact us at 462-0311 or ohhs.riteshare@ohhs.ri.gov.

In order to be eligible for RIte Share, you and/or your child(ren) need to be eligible for Medicaid.  Medicaid eligibility is based on your income and the size of your family:

  • Parents with children under age 18 with income up to 136 % of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
  • Adults without children with income up to 133% of the FPL
  • Pregnant women with income up to 253% of the FPL
  • Children up to age 19 with income up to 261% of the FPL

Cost

If your household income is greater than 150% of the FPL, you will be charged a monthly cost share. This is called the RIte Share Buy-in program. It is for families where only the children are eligible for Medicaid, but the parents benefit from the State paying for the employer-sponsored insurance that includes them.
